What’s on in Rome in 2011

 

Rome is undoubtedly one the most beautiful cities in the world with year millions of tourists coming in annually to visit the treasures and masterpieces of Roman heritage. Here are the highlights for the upcoming events this season:

 

1. Primo Maggio Music Festival

This is a huge festival in Piazza San Giovanni, which was first held in 1989. At first, the event had nothing in common with Pagan celebrations, but it soon turned into a major cultural event in the country.

2. RomaFictionFest

 

RomaFictionFest is a unique celebration of international fiction, ranging from popular television series to docudramas and bestsellers. You can enjoy the productions, as they are being screened in various sections at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome.

3. InEURoff Festival

 

The event is organized by the Ondadurto Theatre Association and brings together theatre, music and dance to create powerful visual performances. The artistic acts revolve around the theme of war and the performances are held in Rome’s EUR quarter.

4. Feast of San Lorenzo

 

The death of San Lorenzo (or St. Lawrence) is celebrated each year throughout the country.You can enjoy the fireworks, cuisine and outdoor celebrations in the area surrounding his crypt at San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, where he was murdered in 258 AD.

5. Roma Vintage

 

Roma Vintage is an exquisite event celebrating the cultural heritage of the 1970s and 1980s. Numerous activities take place around the city and you can enjoy music, television shows, cult movies and theatre acts held in Parco San Sebastiano.

6. Rome Meets the World

 

Rome Meets the World is a summer music festival held annually at the green Villa Ada. You can listen to 50 international musicians performing while also enjoying special cuisine, arts and crafts stands that spice up this multi-ethnic event.

7. Rock in Roma

 

This is a huge international event that puts together famous rock bands and musicians that jpoin together for memorable rock performances. The annual Rock in Roma festival takes place throughout a 3 week interval at the Ippodromo delle Campanelle, offering splendid music sound and a lot of space for partying.
