*NEW* What happens in Rome in the summer of 2011?
About the guide
This is by no means a complete resource to Rome. You could put a whole library online to cover it adequately. But, we’ve tried to create a concentrated guide which will show you how to get value for your money when visiting the Italian capital. Below you’ll find some highlights of what we can offer:
Budget drinking in Rome
The various nightlife areas of Rome are analyzed based on who’s going where, and there’s a list of specific tips on quirky places to have some inexpensive glasses of wine.
Where to eat cheap?
When it comes to filling up your stomach we have suggestions for very cheap eats where you can get your Sicilian fast food and pizza slices for a few euros. If you want to use a few more euros to secure yourself a table at a more restauranty-place, there’s some good suggestions at the cheap eats page.
Inexpensive sleep
Rome has a reputation of being very expensive when it comes to accommodation. A list of cheap hostels and some suggestions for moderately priced hotels/pensions are also available. Do also check out Anytrips’ cheap Rome hotels.
..or of course, you can always hook up with a local and spend the night for free in someone’s apartment. Find out how in the where to get laid section.

Feel free to ask a question or leave a reply!

We are visiting Rome for 6 days in mid march with our 15 y.o daugter. We are lucky and able to get a pretty good hotel deal.
What is the best and inexpesive place/way to soak in the Roma atmosphere (by that I mean outside the typical tourist things.)
Also, could you suggest a nice day trip outside of Rome that is easy and cheap for us? Thanks!

Hi Janice, apologise for taking some time to answer you. I think you will find the Porta Portese flea market a really rewarding attraction. Plenty of locals there and not many tourists. Go enjoy it.
For a daytrip, what about taking the train to beautiful Anzio (55 km south of Rome).
